The paintings made for this show were ignited by a solicitation by Jennifer Borges Foster to participate in a show, A Good Line: Artists on Poems, to devise a painting based on a poem that I love. A cruel and invigorating challenge I can’t let go of still. I started with e.e. cummings and continued to choose poets that possess and inspire: Rainer Maria Rilke, Virginia Woolf, Wallace Stevens, Michael Ondaatje, Louise Glück and Ikkyu.

The blood of the artist is a potent substance that resonates more than any pigment. I work with a medical professional to extract small amounts at a time and am myself a certified phlebotomist.
